This sterling silver pendant features an authentic silver coin depicting Antiochus VI wearing a radiate crown. On the reverse side, the coin shows the seated god Apollo. Antiochus VI Epiphanes Dionysus (148 BC - 138 BC) was a nominal ruler of the Seleucid Empire from 145 to 140 BC, although he did not wield actual power.

Antiochus VI was the son of Alexander I Bala and Cleopatra Thea, and the maternal grandson of Ptolemy VI of Egypt. After his father’s death in 145 BC during a civil war against Demetrius II, General Diodotus declared Antiochus VI the ruler of the western part of the kingdom, with Antioch of Syria as his capital, while Demetrius took control of the eastern part.

The radiate crown, resembling the sun's rays, was a symbol used by Roman emperors and often appeared on coins of the period. This crown first appeared with Augustus in some cameos and was later seen with emperors such as Caligula, Trajan, and Marcus Aurelius. It was often alternated with the laurel wreath, primarily used during the Republican era.

Our jewelry store, Serra Roma, proudly presents an exquisite collection that beautifully honors the ancient traditions of Greek and Roman civilizations. Each piece in our collection, including authentic ancient Roman and Greek coins and intaglios, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, providing proof of its historical significance and origin.
